Chapter 2

Clara sat on a couch knitting, while Angelica paced the sitting room.

“Angel, you need not worry too much. Leon has told me that Drakon is a wise and level headed boy,” said Clara.

“Who knows Mum once we settle down in Greece, whether Drakon will change?” asked Angelica.

“Well let’s wait and see, hmm?” said Clara, smiling. She knew Angelica would take a liking to Drakon no soon she saw him. He was as handsome as he father. Leon had shown her a few photographs of Galene and Drakon. Galene was a beautiful woman, with sharp features. It was a shame she had died so young.

Leon arrived in Italy that evening. He wanted to surprise Clara with an engagement ring and a bouquet of roses. He would take her out to dinner tonight and then propose to her. He hailed a cab and drove to Clara’s home. He saw her car parked in the porch and knew she was home. Walking up the path leading to her front door, he rang the bell. Clara came rushing down the stairway.

“Who is it?” she asked.

“It’s me your Greek Tycoon,” said Leon.

Clara flung open the door and hugged Leon, who hugged her back.

“You never told me you were coming to Italy?’ she said accusingly, but with a smile on her face.

“Okay then I will go back to Greece, call you to tell you I am coming and then leave for Italy again,” said Leon with a twinkle in his eye.

“Oh’ don’t be silly. I love surprises darling and especially when they are from you,” she said, smacking him playfully on the shoulder.

Clara felt so many years younger, as Leon made her feel so young and energetic.

They both walked into the house hand in hand.

“What’s the surprise in aide of?” asked Clara, as she was still suspicious. Did he come to tell her Drakon had rejected his decision to marry her? Clara felt a surge of pain rip through her, as she looked at Leon.

“Darling what’s the matter? You were happy a while ago and now why do you have that distant look?” asked Leon coming over to plant a kiss on her lips.

“How is Drakon?” asked Clara.

So this was it, she was worried about what Drakon had to say, thought Leon, but he could not give the game away. He wanted to propose to her in style and not like this.

“Sweetheart, I have made a dinner reservation at the Hilton for tonight,” he said.

Clara turned to look at his in surprise.

“What shall I wear?” she asked.

“Anything darling, you look wonderful and lovely in anything you wear,” said Leon, looking at Clara lovingly.

Angelica came breezing through the door and stopped when she saw Leon seated at the table. “Hi Uncle Leon, when did you come?” asked Angelica, giving him a hug.

“Hi Angel. I flew in this morning. How are you keeping?” asked Leon.

“Not too bad. Lots of work at the restaurant, as I have urged Mum to open another restaurant up town,” said Angelica, smiling, the dimple on her left cheek showing prominently.
